We would like to say a massive THANK YOU to House Media Unit (SHMU) and to all our film stars for their amazing job!
Our film is a collection of stories and projects narrated by individuals from across our region, illustrating our shared vision for our green journey ahead. If you missed the first two screenings, there is still an opportunity to see it! Our final film screening will be in Aberdeen Arts Centre, Aberdeen at 2.00 pm on Sunday 13th November
On this date, the film’s stars will be attending to take questions from the audience and share their knowledge, experience, and lessons learned for anyone trying to start up their own climate change community group or project. There will also be stalls hosted by community groups with information and activities before and after the film.
Doors will open at 1pm for networking, stalls, and refreshments and there will be 30 minutes after the film for questions and further networking. We look forward to seeing you all there and sharing the brilliant community work taking place across the region.

Online events: 27th October Rural Development and Forestry, 9th November Agricultural Wages,15th November Modernising Agricultural Tenancies
This consultation will close on 21st November 2022.
As part of the Scottish Government’s consultation process to develop a new Agriculture Bill, eight regional events will be held in locations across Scotland.
These will be general sessions looking at the proposals of the Agriculture Bill. There will also be four online virtual events focusing on specific themes included in the bill. Further information on these can be found here:
- Delivering the Agricultural Vision
- Rural Development and Forestry
- Agricultural Wages
- Modernisation of Agricultural Tenancies
The aim of these events is to gather initial views on the Scottish Government’s proposals outlined in the consultation, “Delivering our Vision for Scottish Agriculture, Proposals for a new Agriculture Bill”.
These events will not focus on providing detail of future measures or schemes. They are an opportunity for individuals and organisations to discuss the proposed powers and the development of a new Bill that supports Scotland’s ambition to support high-quality food production and be a global leader in sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
All are welcome to come along to ask questions, raise issues, and contribute to the discussion. To get the most out of these events, we recommend that in advance of attending the event, you read through the Agriculture Bill Consultation. Please see the consultation hub to view all open consultations. A full list of consultation analysis reports is available on the gov.scot website

Green Participatory Budgeting Information Event
07th November 2022 | 12 noon - 2pm | Bonnymuir Green
Find out more about GreenPB at our Event at Bonnymuir Gardens.
We are delighted to be hosting a community get-together with ACVO, where we will be available to answer any questions you might have about Green Participatory budgeting.
Are you a community group or non-profit organisation in Aberdeen city or shire? Would you like up to £50,000 to spend on equipment or infrastructure to make your community more sustainable?
Participatory budgeting (PB) is a democratic process in which everyone decides directly how to spend an allocated amount of money. Put simply, PB is local people having a direct say in how public money is spent.
In this capital green PB fund, community groups can bid for funding to buy equipment that will improve their community, while helping to combat climate change and enhance nature.
The Scottish Government Just Transition Fund aims to transform our future by enabling a transition to net zero, affecting our jobs, the way we live and the way we do business. This transformation can be an opportunity to build a wealthier, healthier and fairer Scotland.
There is £333,333 to be spent by the communities on projects in each of Moray, Aberdeen City & Aberdeenshire.
Once the proposals are in, everyone in a local authority area can vote to say which community projects will get funded in that area. It is all about communities making choices about what they want to happen in their local area.
This event will address the following questions:
What is the Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund?
How does Participatory Budgeting work?
Who can apply?
What are the key dates?
What can the fund cover?
Join ACVO and NESCAN Hub to gain an overview of the Fund, discuss the answers to the above questions and any other queries you may have.
There is a range of other information and drop-in events being organised to help communities develop bids for the Fund. You can get all the details on our website: www.nescan.org/pb.
For any queries please contact, NESCAN HUB Community Development and Funding Officer Rachel Smith at rachel@nescan.org

Wed 9th Nov 2022 | 10:30 - 14:30 | online
How to become a more welcome and inclusive group / organisation? How to engage with diverse communities & include diverse voices?
A training workshop to help your group widen participation - we'll explore our awareness of how different forms of racism affect the environmental sector on a daily basis.
10:30am - 14.30pm Wed 9th Nov at Mental Health Aberdeen, Langstane House, 6 Dee St, Aberdeen AB11 6DR
Booking essential - limited to just 15 participants.
While we are navigating our way forward to honest diversity and inclusion, SCCAN and CEMVO have developed a training opportunity to conduct individual and organisational analysis of methods for engaging with diverse communities. We will consider and question our own awareness of racism today and how different forms of racism are affecting the green sector on a daily basis.
There's no 'one-size-fits-all' solution to holistic reforms in our ways of working but the first step to all possible solutions would look at generating honest enthusiasm to being responsive to people with lived experiences of inequalities. More often than not, our attempts at creating equality in the workplace are experienced as tokenistic and superficial.
To combat that exploitative nature of our experiments, we must begin with educating ourselves in racism and then thinking of setting up long-term anti-racism frameworks. So, this training workshop will allow you to explore ideas of racism and what it means to put them in and out of practice.
We will also be exploring different tokenistic organisational practices through a case study of sexual orientation before zooming out and considering how this can be applied to different protected characteristics.
There are bursaries and travel costs available where cost of participation might be a barrier. Please email training@scottishcommunitiescan.org.uk.
A light lunch will be served from 1.00pm to 1:30pm. The venue has disabled access toilet facilities. Please indicate any needs you have when booking - or email training@scottishcommunitiescan.org.uk https://scottishcommunitiescan.org.uk

Community Resilience Strategy Workshops
Various Dates | | Hybrid
We would like to invite you to attend one of the Community Resilience Strategy Workshops scheduled for the week of 10th October 2022. We need your contributions to help define what individual, household, family, and community resilience means in Aberdeenshire and identify how it can be strengthened before, during and after an emergency. What skills and knowledge need to be enhanced; what tools and support are needed? What ideas from international comparators or local examples of resilience can we learn from? The discussion will help shape the Aberdeenshire Community Resilience Strategy setting out what individuals, household, families, communities, and responders can expect from each other and will assist in the production of Individual Preparedness Guides that provide practical advice and guidance
Please click on the BOOK NOW button to register form, which we would ask you to fill out by Thursday 6th October 2022 stating your first and second preference in terms of date, time, and venue.

Decarbonizing Applied Arts
26th October | 7:30 pm | online
Join members of Applied Arts Scotland and the Barn team for an online panel discussion exploring decarbonizing applied arts as part of the exhibition |MATTER| Earth, Materials + Making exhibition currently on show at the Barn.
Over the past two years as part of Applied Arts Scotland’s Closing the Loop Group makers have developed exploratory works from a diverse range of environmentally aware approaches that re-use waste, value biodiversity, local materials, and production systems.
The discussion will consider questions of decarbonization in Applied Arts and craft practices more broadly; drawing inspiration from these makers and the new circumstances of practice brought about by working with and thinking about environmentally considered crafts. This will include reflections from the makers on how this has played out in their practice through material choices and production systems, ideas of slow craft, thoughtful connections to place, and social inclusion.

Hosting a Climate Café: Facilitation Training
12th October | 5.30pm-8.30pm | online
This workshop will give participants the confidence to set up their own Climate Café along Climate Psychology Alliance lines
The workshop is for those who have recognized the value of the Climate Café concept, in which thoughts, feelings and mixed emotions that arrive in response to challenges of climate warming are shared in safety. The workshop is therefore aimed at those who want to learn how to “hold the space” where personal experiences, fears and uncertainties, will be brought.
This workshop will support participants to develop the confidence to set up their own Climate Café. It will include a short taster climate café, the principles on which Climate Cafés are based, building a toolkit of practical resources, and a discussion of the organisation and facilitation of Climate Cafés.
SCCAN is organising this workshop for its members. The workshop coordinators will be Pam Candea and Elspeth Crawford. Pam and Elspeth are members of the Climate Psychology Alliance with experience of Climate Cafe facilitation and a broad range of past experience in enabling groups.

26TH | 7:30 – 8:30 | online
Are you a community group or non profit organisation in Aberdeen city or shire? Would you like up to £50,000 to spend on equipment or infrastructure to make your community more sustainable?
Learn all about the new Just Transition Green Participatory Budgeting Fund and how your group and community could benefit from it in this online event.
The Scottish Government Just Transition Fund aims to transform our future in the coming years enabling a just transition to net zero, affecting our jobs, the way we live and the way we do business. This transformation can be an opportunity to build a wealthier, healthier and fairer Scotland.
Participatory budgeting (PB) is a democratic process in which everyone decides directly how to spend an allocated amount of money. Put simply, PB is local people having a direct say in how public money is spent.
In this capital green PB fund, community groups can put in proposals allowing them to buy goods that will improve their community or North East Scotland as a portion or whole, while helping to combat climate change and enhance nature.
Join Nescan Hub, and ACVO to hear what the Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund means for your community. You can get further information on our website www.nescan.org/pb For any queries please contact, NESCAN HUB Community Development and Funding Officer Rachel Smith at rachel@nescan.org.
There is a range of other information and drop-in events being organised to help communities develop bids for the Fund. You can get all the details on our website: www.nescan.org/pb.
