Udny Repair Café - April 22nd, 6 pm

We all know the stereotype, "keep this random item in my shed for years, just in case it comes in hand"... but what if we could work together and actually use these just in case" bits to fix something?

According to Sky News:

  • Fewer than 1 in 10 people attempt to repair items if they are broken.
  • Nearly 22 million small pieces of furniture, more than 11,000 bicycles and over 28 million toys are binned in the UK every year after they become damaged.
  • 42% surveyed said they would like to learn the skills to mend what they end up throwing away.

That's a horrifically huge number of things going to landfill. I don't have the skill to fix everything but I have so many repair jobs because I can't bear to throw something perfectly good out.

This is where a Repair Café comes in! Imagine where there are experts on hand who can show you and help you fix these projects. A place where there are tools and materials needed to make these repairs. A place where you can learn new skills and share your skills with others. Oh, and where we can reduce the throw away culture that we live in.

We need your help! Udny Repair Café is a community-run project and we need as many experts to help us as we can. Every month, we will email round the team of experts and see who is free that month.

If you can make it, excellent! Letting is know you can help is not a commitment, it is an offer to help - when you can!

At the moments we are short of electronic and tool fixers, especially if you have a PAT certificate. If you can help in ANY way, please get in contact UdnyRepairCafe@gmail.com or on Facebook @UdnyRepairCafe

The first Café is on Monday, April 22nd at 6 pm at Café 48, Pitmedden.

Looking forward to seeing you at future repair cafes and helping you clear that "just in case" pile!
